The following resource which was introduced in Week One's learning and carried through the unit. It is a valuable resource which allowed me to engage with the 21st Century Fluencies.
“The 21st Century Fluencies have nothing to do with hardware—they are about headware, and heart ware!” The Global Digital Citizen Foundation resource underpinned the argument that "we need to go beyond literacy to fluency". The video titled 'Information Fluency' by Crockett, Jukes and Churches speaks about the challenges associated with learning in the Digital Age. The Global Digital Citizen Foundation's vision is one which has resonated with me throughout the entire unit. This video resource furthered my understanding of the overwhelming amount of information which we as global citizens have access to. The video assisted my understanding that as a teacher my role to effectively teach and support students to: a) Ask: The appropriate questions (relevant & meaningful) b) Acquire: Sources derived from questions c) Analyse: Authenticate the information (read between the lines & understand bias) d) Apply: The knowledge within the context for its original purpose e) Assess: Consider what was learnt, what sources were reliable and which weren't. (how to find meaningful and accurate information). (The Global Citizen Foundation, 2014) |

21 century educationThis video resource allowed me to reflect upon how The Digital Age will impact student's learning in the future.
From this I was able to identify the revolution of the Digital age and how the experiences of students and teachers has dramatically changed. "Learning can happen anywhere and everywhere"- The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership It also allowed me to reflect upon the various ways the ways that children communicate now and where they are heading in the future! It allowed me to reflect upon how I will teach my students in the classroom when I am a qualified teacher and as a pre-service teacher. Teaching in the Digital age is extremely positive and with the right tools I will be able to personalise students learning to engage students in diverse and creative ways of thinking! One of those essential "tools" is The Australian Curriculum national educational standards which can be easily accessible online which ensures the needs are met for the 21st Century learner. I have used this resource multiple times throughout this entire course, whether it be for when I have been on practicum and researching for an assignment. The Australian Curriculum resource is easily accessible and an invaluable tool for any teacher. |
